Audi R8 Spyder driven reviews

Here are otomac will review the Audi R8 Spyder Driven. Supercar is slower than hot hatch. Almost tagline to brag about, but the inescapable truth is that in the 0-62mph-land, the new R8 Spyder V8 is slower than the Audi RS3 own – 4.6secs 4.8secs play, in the case of knowledge as to tickle your fancy.

Especially in V8 trim. Yes, it’s entry-level model, and therefore by definition poor relation to V10, but despite a poll showing public opinion against the office, I actually prefer to drive a V8. It’s 60kg lighter than the V10 and – at the risk of looking absolutely magnificent – that makes no difference, the V8 is a bit more nimble and sweet to drive.

One thing we all agree is that we like the soft top more than the coupe. Yes, it’s harder (to the tune of 100kg), which makes me really appear fickle when I was just ranting about how the R8 lighter is better, but you just have to believe that the payback is worth it. Anyway, time for another point of … that V8 sounds better than the V10. 5.2-liter Flagship has this beautiful fluted, tunable, woofly tone that clearly beautiful; 4.2-liter V8 but sounds a little more dangerous. Dogs barked and have the edge, angry guttural that really gets under your skin and make your bits tingle.

Engine has been updated a bit since it first appeared in 2007 and has gained 10bhp R8 in the process, but this is still the same V8 naturally aspirated 4.2-liter engine that appeared in the old RS4, not an all-new 444bhp V8 from the RS5. And if I’m honest, it’s not as punchy as I can remember. This fast is fine, but the weight of the Spyder has sued a small penalty, and the V8 does not burn through their teeth. Still think it will be happy to draw a clear RS3 above 60mph though, and no one ever has a turbo engine throttle response and engine for this game. And like I said earlier, pure speed is not what this car is all about.

What matters just as much is that beautiful machine to use (especially above 4500 rpm and even more especially when approaching the limiter at 8500 rpm), gearbox mated with equally beautiful in form of open-gated six-speed manual. It just so sneaky slide from teeth to teeth, it’s like everything was dipped in caviar. This type of transmission that makes you downshift just for fun – ideally with a blip, well-reasoned throttle.

To enjoy this fully, to really have fun in the drama, noise and charisma that is so capable V8 delivers, I expect you think you have to have the roof down. No Dropping the top does not make the Spyder looks better, but the bluff cabin means of sound waves from the mid-mounted machines scattered at a mean speed. Instead use a small lever switch on the back of the roof to lower the power rear window. Honestly, it’s like removing a set of earplugs – amazing clarity, volume perfectly judged.

And driving? If you want to be ultra-long-winded, the coupe is the way to go like it was just a little sharper. But who would want to be a pedant when dealing with a car like this? Spyder is 99 percent as well and provide all the benefits of the open air as well. There is no structural wobble, so it turned into the corner of the net and give you oodles of confidence – not something that can be said of any mid-engined supercar. Better or worse than the Spyder V10? Again, really too close to call, but the fact that in all the regions meaningful matches V8 £ 20,000 more expensive V10 tells you all you need to know.

The ‘lesser’ models do not perform without the suspension of two-mode magnetic ride adaptive, but the standard set-up is considered very good, and if you want the duality of comfort / sport silencer gives the impression that, they are on the choice list (£ 1.380).

Like many other things. R8 Spyder is not a cheap car, or one very well equipped and the £ 95,545 list price will soon swell into six figures after you have been in the brochure. Do you need? Well, £ 100,610 Our test car is as beautifully constructed, designed and finished as you would expect, but without the tasty bits and bobs like the inset trim that lifts the cabin atmosphere further. Ideally I’d like to sit lower fraction in the cabin, but, as with gearlever, there is no fault of weights and measures from the pedals and controls.

We like: Drive, sight, sound
We do not like: The fact that it’s slower than an RS3
Verdict: An absolute winner top to tail, Spyder V8 is by no means a poor relationship with V10′s.
Performance: 0-62mph in 4.8secs, max 186mph, 19.6mpg
Tech: 4163cc, V8, 4WD, 424bhp, £ 317 ft, 1660kg, 337g/km CO2
Check this list of options: Audi magnetic ride, £ 1380
And avoid this: The five piece set features a suitcase, £ 3,830

It's true that, despite quality control, two cars of the exact same make, model and specification that roll out of the same plant may differ in certain aspects such as fit and finish or actual engine output by a few ponies, but those differences are most of the times imperceptible to the human eye.
